Lenovo Challenging Apple With a 23-inch “Tablet”
It doesn’t get any crazier than this. Deciding it cannot possibly compete with the iPad juggernaut in the 9.7-inch space, Lenovo has gone all out to impress watchers with a 23-inch thing they’re calling a “tablet”. It should be out this year and will be based on Lenovo’s all-in-one computers. It’s a “home” tablet, Lenovo’s senior marketing specialist William Cai tells TechRadar.
He then launched into the sales pitch:
We think that there is potential for a 23-inch tablet. We’d have to take care of battery life and we are working to get the weight down. It’s obviously not for full mobility use, but it could be moved from room to room in the house and used with a full keyboard, or as a television.Or you could lay it on a table top and use it for family games.
Tech Companies Tout Their Tablets for School Districts
In the land of electronic devices, halfway between hand-held smartphones and laptop computers are tablet computers.
With rapid technology advancements, the tablet landscape is changing fast. About 70 technology leaders from school districts all over the province got a sneak peek at Research in Motion’s (RIM) new PlayBook at a two-day technology symposium at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute this week. In addition to the PlayBook, they also got a look at tablet devices from Toshiba, Asus, Dell, Motorola, Samsung and Acer.
“They have a chance to come in and pitch their wares and to show us how those tablets that they’re producing will fit into the educational K to 12 environment,” said Rik Jesse, technology co-ordinator with the Lethbridge public school district. “We’re seeing that some are designed more for consumer use, others are designed more for business use and it seems like all of them are scrambling at this moment trying to find a nice fit into the educational market. We don’t have anything that’s the perfect fit at this moment.”
Apple Experimenting with iPod Wi-Fi syncing
Yesterday we reported that Apple had made a key hire for the future of its casing materials. Kevin Kenney, a carbon fiber expert and inventor of a Reinforced Device Housing patented by Apple, became a full time employee at Cupertino.
We thought this was just so that Apple could replace aluminium, steel, and glass casings on iDevices with a carbon fiber alternative. That way the strength remains, but the weight drops significantly. But that’s not the whole story.
Should you Buy a Desktop or Laptop from QVC or HSN?

If you’re a channel-flipper like myself, you may have switched past home-shopping juggernauts HSN and QVC, which tout their great deals in a folksy manner that doesn’t have the in-your-face obnoxiousness of a typical infomercial. When I see them hawking PCs, however, I can’t help but be a little skeptical: Are these really better prices than you can find elsewhere?
So I headed over to these channels’ Web sites to see what’s currently on offer, and how the deals stack up against other online outlets. You probably won’t be surprised to hear that you can do a lot better — either getting more computing for the same money, or the same computing for less money — if you don’t pick up that phone and place an order with HSN or QVC.
Inspiron M102z Laptop With AMD Fusion
Some might argue that the netbook’s heyday is over, but there’s still a growing number of them finding the market. In fact, we’d argue that the netbook may be on the rebound, thanks largely to AMD’s Fusion platform. While Intel’s Atom was revolutionary for its time, the chip never seemed to improve quickly enough. Even new Atom CPUs feel sluggish, and thanks to Fusion, Intel’s in a spot now where they simply need to step up if they plan on matching pace. Dell’s shown support for AMD in the past, but they’re one of the last major companies to buy into Fusion; but hey, better late than never!
