One Billion People Have Been in Apple Stores
Today Apple confirmed that more than one billion people have walked into their stores. More than one billion people have been face to face with countless Apple computers, iPods, and iPads. Apple also announced that it plans to increase its total amount of stores to about 360 by the end of the year. Notes from Apple’s Q3 2011 Earnings Conference Call
Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer noted that the company has experienced the highest quarterly earnings and revenues in its history, as well as record sales for the iPhone and iPad. Apple sold 7.5m iPods last quarter, ahead of expectations with the iPod touch being over 50% of all iPods sold.
Acer’s Chromebook Laptop Remains among Amazon Bestsellers
Taipei, July 20 (CNA) Acer Inc.’s Chromebook, an always-connected laptop running Google Inc.’s Chrome operating system, remains competitive on Amazon.com Inc.’s bestsellers list for laptop computers six weeks after going on sale in June.
As of Wednesday morning, the 11.6-inch Acer Chromebook with Wi-Fi connectivity was ranked seventh on the list, extending its stay in the top 100 to 42 days.
The 12.1-inch Samsung Series 5 Wi-Fi Chromebook was ranked 15th and Samsung’s 3G Chromebook was 12th.

Lenovo Unveils three 10.1-in. Tablets, Two Running Android
Computerworld – Lenovo today announced a family of three 10.1-in. tablet computers, including two that run Android 3.1 and one that runs Windows 7.
The two Android machines are dubbed the IdeaPad Tablet K1 for consumers and the ThinkPad Tablet for business users, Lenovo said.
The 32GB version of the K1 with Wi-Fi can be ordered starting today online and at some stores for $499, but won’t be generally available in the U.S. until sometime in August. Availability will follow later for the rest of the world, Lenovo said.
Apple Tops PC Buyer Satisfaction Survey
Consumers who opt for Apple computers are the most satisfied among all PC buyers, according to a report released today by the Temkin Group.
Polling 842 recent PC buyers in the United States, Temkin found that Apple led the way in customer satisfaction across all areas of the buying process, starting with providing the information to find the right computer through customer service.
Scientists: Stuff to Make Cell Phones May Come from Ocean Floor
Key raw materials necessary for modern devices such as cell phones, laptop computers and flat-screen TVs may be found in abundance on the ocean floor, Japanese scientists report in the journal Nature Geoscience.
Yasuhiro Kato and his colleagues at the University of Tokyo say they surveyed 78 sites on the Pacific Ocean floor and found high concentrations of rare-earth elements and the metal yttrium.

I took some profits Friday on some of the slightly-out-of-the-money puts I sold on Visa (V) and Apple (AAPL) a few weeks ago. I will wait for next week’s probable pullback to redeploy some of that money. One stocks that intrigues me, based on valuation, is Dell.
