How to clear your DNS Cache
Ever had trouble seeing the latest version of your web page, well not anymore, clear out the DNS cache using this handy method.
Q: I tried the tip Clear DNS Cache in XP and Vista to Speed Internet numerous times. I always get the message Could not flush the DNS Resolver Cache…function failed during execution. Any ideas?—L. G. Cary
A: This typically means that the DNS client service is not running,, which, if true, means it can’t slow your system due to a bloated or corrupted cache. But it also means the service can’t do its job of speeding your Internet access by caching domain name information—nor can it slow access if the cache gets bloated or corrupted.
Here’s how you enable the service:
1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Enter services.msc
4. Double-click DNS Client in the list
5. Set its start-up type to Automatic
6. Click the Start button
7. Click OK
8. Close the Services list
Now that it’s running you’ll find that the ipconfig /flushdns command works properly.
