HP TouchSmart IQ816 Review
November 10, 2008
The HP TouchSmart IQ816 PC ($2,099.99 list) is the big brother of the TouchSmart IQ506, which I reviewed earlier this year. Like its sibling, the IQ816 is an all-in-one PC with a touch screen that can work as its primary interface. The IQ816 has a largish 25.5-inch widescreen with a 1,920-by-1,200 native resolution, making it primed for HDTV content. Combined with the built-in ATSC/HDTV tuner, the IQ816 could replace the TV in one’s kitchen, bedroom, or den. It’s a decent performer but loses a couple of points because it’s loaded with crapware and the screen doesn’t quite fit the bezel. The IQ816’s real strength is that it’s more touch-centric than its all-in-one rivals. Read more
Apple iMac 20-inch Review
November 6, 2008
After a great deal of speculation on the latest update to the iMac, it turns out that the rumour mongers were correct.
Brushed aluminium and glass it is, and it’s a bit thinner – doesn’t sound like much on paper. Even once the announcement was made and pictures flooded the internet, it didn’t look as though Apple had done a great deal this time round. So it’s a bit thinner, they’ve used new materials and given the keyboard an eating disorder – big deal, you’re probably thinking. Until you see it all in the flesh, that is. Read more
Dell Inspiron 12 Mini
October 28, 2008
A truly bizarre day to announce a new notebook, Dell’s Inspiron Mini 12 is officially the most gargantuan netbook on the block. I wasn’t exactly blown away by it when I scoped it briefly a couple months ago, but Laptop was sufficiently impressed in its more in-depth hands on to compare it to the MacBook Air and Voodoo Envy—but you know, 0.2 inches thicker, more ports and you know, a thousand dollars cheaper at only $599. BlackBerry Bold 900 Review
September 2, 2008
At 4.5 by 2.6 by 0.6 inches (HWD), the 4.8-ounce device with metal accents and a leather back feels thick and solid in your hand. It’s longer and wider than the BlackBerry Curve, and a little broader than the iPhone 3G. The Bold feels a full pay grade above the Curve, and if the iPhone is a sporty Mini Cooper, this device is a Rolls-Royce. Read more
HP Compaq Presario SR5610F Review
September 2, 2008
The HP Compaq Presario SR5610F is part of the HP’s Compaq Presario SR line of budget-price PCs. Like most SR models, the SR5610F is a no-frills model that costs less than $500. Its capable handling of basic daily computing tasks (Web browsing, archiving CDs, e-mailing, standard office productivity) can make for a decent student PC or second home computer. Read more
Lenovo ThinkPad SL400 Review
August 24, 2008
The predictable demise of Lenovo’s small-business notebook line—the 3000 series—happened with little or no notice. The gap between the enterprise ThinkPads and the 3000 series was simply too wide for any small-business user to bridge. Yet that ending allowed a new line of Lenovo small-business laptops to emerge. The ThinkPad SL400 ($1,129 direct) looks as if it’s from the same gene pool as its enterprise brothers, and it inherits many of the classic ThinkPad design features, such as the signature keyboard and TrackPoint pointing stick. No slouch, the SL400 blazes the performance trails with a variety of processing options. Read more

So there’s this phone called the Nokia E71. It magically showed up on our doorstep yesterday (shout out to FedEx Sameday!) and was begging for us to review it. Well, we’re not going to disappoint you. In fact, there will be no disappointment at all as you’ll see in our review. The Nokia E71 has officially entered the ring, and it’s coming out fighting. Spoiler Alert: we love this phone. Full review is after the break!
HP Pavilion Slimline s3500f
August 10, 2008
The HP Pavilion Slimline s3500f ($580 direct) is HP’s customizable version of the Slimline PC configuration we’ve seen before in the Slimline s3330f. It uses the same case, but the s3500f is a little more than half the price of its predecessor. Obviously the new system has fewer bells and whistles, but then again, you don’t always need all the optional extras to get a useful PC, especially for the midrange user or student.
Dell Studio 17 Review
July 31, 2008
Last year Dell finally realized that consumers don’t want another nameless, faceless black and gray laptop that gets lost in the crowd. Today’s mobile generation wants notebooks that are as unique and stylish as possible. The result was the amazingly attractive and amazingly popular 13.3″ XPS M1330 and the 15.4″ Dell XPS M1530. Taking things one step further, Dell announced the highly customizable Studio 15 and Studio 17 notebooks.
